Websites That Pay You

Imagine getting paid to do simple tasks like watching videos, taking surveys, or testing products—all from the comfort of home. It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme, but these websites offer fun and easy ways to earn extra cash during your downtime.

1. Rakuten

Formerly known as Ebates, Rakuten remains a trusted and easy-to-use cash-back platform that helps you save money every time you shop—whether online or in-store. With over 3,500 participating retailers, including household names like Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, JCPenney, and Sephora, you’re earning cash on purchases you’d already make.

Rakuten operates as your personal rebate expert. Instead of hunting for coupons or promo codes, simply start your shopping journey on Rakuten’s website, app, or browser extension. Once you shop at a participating retailer, Rakuten earns a commission and shares a percentage with you as cash back. You can earn rebates up to 25% at popular retailers.

Rakuten’s newer features make saving even easier. Get real-time notifications of cash-back offers while shopping online or in-store via the app. Link your credit card to your Rakuten account, activate offers, and shop at participating brick-and-mortar stores. The Rakuten browser extension alerts you to cash-back opportunities and automatically applies savings at checkout.

If you don’t have an account, it’s super easy to open your free account. And quite amazing how much you can earn with cash back from online purchases you would have made anyway.

Rakuten sends checks out once each quarter—paper check in the mail. I get one (Rakuten calls it “My Big Fat Check!”) without fail every three months. And it never ceases to surprise me in a really good way!

2. Swagbucks

Swagbucks is one of the most popular online rewards programs that pays you to complete everyday tasks. Users earn points—known as Swag Bucks (SBs)—which can be redeemed for gift cards from over 1,500 popular retailers like Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Starbucks. Don’t want gift cards? Redeem your points for cold, hard cash via PayPal.

How does it work you wonder? Swagbucks rewards users for activities they already do online. Members can earn SB’s using the mobile app and from their computers. Here’s how you can rack up points:

  • Shopping Online: Earn cash-back rebates at over 10,000 stores.
  • Surveys: Share your opinion through surveys, which now offer higher payouts for longer sessions.
  • Playing Games: Get rewarded for trying new games and reaching specific milestones.
  • Searching the Web: Use Swagbucks’ Yahoo-powered search engine and earn SB’s for your queries.
  • Watching Videos: View entertaining clips or trending content to earn points.
  • Exploring Offers: Get paid for signing up for trials, apps, or other featured services.
  • Submitting Receipts: Upload shopping receipts to earn SB’s.
  • Refer Friends: Invite friends and earn a 10% bonus on their qualified earnings for life!

Joining is simple. Create a free Swagbucks account via the website or mobile app (available on iOS and Android). Verify your email to claim a welcome bonus. Then take a quick survey or watch a 5-minute video. The opportunities to earn SB’s will be endless. Do as little or as much as you want.

While Swagbucks isn’t a full-time income replacement, dedicated users earn between $50 and $250 monthly, with top-tier members reporting lifetime earnings of $20,000+. Swagbucks is super easy to use and you’ll be amazed how quickly you can earn SB’s. We have EC readers who earn hundreds of dollars yearly that they earmark for Christmas shopping.

3. UserTesting

If you’re comfortable navigating websites, providing honest feedback, and sharing your thoughts, UserTesting remains a fantastic side hustle. As a website tester, your insights help developers improve usability and user experience. No advanced tech skills are required—just a computer or smartphone, a reliable internet connection, and a willingness to share your honest perspective.

To get started, watch this video, by Bob Lovitch from SeedTime, then sign up on the UserTesting website and take a short practice test. Once you submit your test results, it takes 2 to 3 days to hear back. It is not unusual to not pass the test on the first try. Just know that, don’t get discouraged and plan to try again. Once you get the hang of how to give excellent test responses, you’ll be on your way. Once approved, complete tasks such as navigating websites or apps, answering questions, or evaluating a specific user experience.

Tests fill up fast. Keep the app or site open to snag opportunities. Respond clearly and thoughtfully to prompts to maintain high ratings. Your feedback quality determines future opportunities. Ensure your devices are up to date and your internet connection is stable. Technical hiccups can impact your test completion time.

UserTesting has been a trusted platform for over a decade. It’s ideal for those looking for flexible, part-time income that fits into their schedule. Many testers earn $50–$300 monthly with consistent effort, though some part-time testers report $500+ earnings. With a mix of regular tests and live interviews, it’s a solid side hustle to supplement your income.

I’ve been doing virtual Pampered Chef shows on the internet for the past few years. I’ve become disabled and not able to walk very far any more. I still cook and love the challenge. It’s been great being able to keep up with what I love but in a virtual world. I’ve been doing this for over 23 years, going virtual has been for about 7 years now. Always keep learning new things, that’s what we need to remember. I love your newsletter Mary, so grateful to have found you so many years ago.

You have some great ideas. I sell fabric on etsy and it is fun and rewarding. I am always thinking of ideas as to how to use the different fabrics besides a dress or blouse or quilt and have come up with a lot of good ideas. I even have two employees now as well. I also sell on ebay but do not recommend that site. They have rules on top of rules on top of rules and they only want the millionaires to sell on there. They have forgotten the little people that have gotten them to where they are now. My little fabric business is pocket change to them.
    Have a good one.

That’s weird… that’s how I feel about Etsy. I started selling on Etsy since I think around 2016 and since they’ve had multiple CEOs since then, Etsy’s gone downhill for small sellers (I never got to the point of hiring anyone). I just have to find another way at this point.

Prodege owns Swagbucks and Inbox Dollars now. Their third company, My Points, is the same type. MyPoints has been around longer, I believe. I belong to both IBD and MP and they are overlapping more and more. I highly recommend both. (I didn’t care for SB, but I was a member years ago before Prodege. Lots of people love SB.)
