Best All-Purpose Cleaner Picks for Every Room at Home
If your cleaning cabinet is bursting at the seams, it might be time to simplify. A good all-purpose cleaner can handle almost every mess, from sticky spills in the kitchen to soap scum in the bathroom. We tested and compared some of the most popular options to find the best all-purpose cleaner for every situation. Here’s the lineup of top performers that can save you time, money, and frustration.
If your cleaning cabinet is overflowing with half-used bottles, it might be time to simplify. A reliable all-purpose cleaner is the one-bottle wonder that can tackle greasy stovetops, sticky counters, and bathroom grime without needing a different spray for every square inch of the house. Less clutter, fewer bottles, and way less decision fatigue.
Here’s the kicker: the all-purpose cleaner market is projected to grow from $54 billion in 2023 to nearly $83 billion by 2032. That’s not because we suddenly got messier. It’s because companies are banking on us buying more products than we actually need. The truth? With the right cleaner, you don’t need half a dozen bottles fighting for space under your sink.
Think of it as Marie Kondo for your cleaning routine… one product that sparks joy by keeping your home sparkling, your budget intact, and your shelves a little less crowded.
How We Chose the Best All-Purpose Cleaners
Not every bottle on the shelf deserves a spot under your sink. To narrow it down, we tested a range of all-purpose cleaners against everyday messes… dust bunnies, grease splatters, soap scum, and yes, even toilet rings. Each product was judged on five things that matter most: effectiveness, ease of use, versatility, price, and overall value. Here are the seven that rose to the top.
Our Top Picks
Best Inexpensive All-Purpose Cleaner
Soft Scrub All Purpose Bath & Kitchen Cleanser
Price doesn’t always equal performance, and Soft Scrub is proof. This unassuming bottle handles nearly every mess you throw at it… countertops, sinks, showers, toilet bowls, and even grimy appliances. It cuts through grease, soap scum, lime scale, and hard water stains without much elbow grease on your end.
Here’s what I like: you don’t need to drown the surface in product. A little on a damp cloth does the job, which means your dollar stretches further. It’s fast, effective, and easy to use, perfect when you’d rather spend your Saturday doing something other than scrubbing the bathroom.
Pro tip: Soft Scrub has a mild abrasive quality, so always test it on delicate or glossy finishes before going full throttle.
Best Cleaner for Gunky Grunge
Stardrops The Pink Stuff All Purpose Cleaning Paste
The Pink Stuff has been crowned a “miracle cleaner” by millions on social media, but does it really live up to the hype? I was skeptical too.
After putting it to the test, I’ll say this: for gunky, grimy messes, it delivers. Porcelain sinks, tubs, and toilets came out looking fresh, even those stubborn antislip decals at the bottom of an older tub. Stainless steel faucets and appliances? Sparkling. It even made my glass oven door and cooktop look like new.
That said, it’s not perfect. White grout didn’t budge, which makes me wonder why no one on TikTok mentioned that. Bottom line: it’s not a universal miracle, but for tough, stuck-on messes, this little tub packs a punch and at a price that makes it worth having on hand.
Pro tip: A little paste goes a long way. Use a damp sponge or cloth, and always test it on a hidden spot first to make sure it won’t scratch.
Best All-Purpose Cleaner for Kitchens
Better Life Unscented All Purpose Cleaner
If your kitchen is the busiest room in the house (and whose isn’t?), you want a cleaner that can cut through everyday mess without leaving behind chemical residue. Better Life Unscented All Purpose Cleaner checks those boxes. It’s plant-based, fragrance-free, and skips the harsh stuff in favor of simple ingredients like soap bark, coconut, and corn.
What I like most is its versatility. It’s just as handy in the bathroom for daily wipe-downs as it is on the stovetop. And unlike some “natural” cleaners that smell like a candle store exploded, this one is blissfully scent-free.
Is it the strongest degreaser on the shelf? No. If you’re tackling a lasagna-pan disaster, you’ll probably need something tougher. But for daily kitchen duty, this is the kind of product you’ll actually reach for.
Pro tip: Keep a bottle under the kitchen sink and another in the bathroom. It saves trips back and forth and makes quick cleanups feel easier.

How to Make a Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaner That Actually Works
buy a cleaner? no, i have vinegar that i use for everything. i pour it directly on the sponge. if i need to scrub grease, i make a paste with vinegar, baking soda and dawn. except for the toilet [clorox toilet wand] it does for everything except left behind duct tape residue. that gets wd40 and a scraping with a fingernail.
I only use Dr Bronners castile soap or their detergent, Sal Suds for all cleaning in my house and out! Sal Suds is very concentrated and can be used for laundry, dishes, floors, and even in pressure washers. I also make my own soft scrub with castile soap and baking soda. Lisa Bronners book, Soap and Soul, has everything I need to know about cleaning everything without harsh chemicals. Very much worth some research. Thanks for your tips!!!
