Fix Almost Anything With These 12 Home Repair Must-Haves

Home repairs don’t have to be expensive—or overwhelming. The trick? Having the right home repair products at your fingertips. These twelve tried-and-true solutions can handle everything from scratched wood to squeaky hinges and chipped counters. I’ve used them all (many more than once), and I’m sharing what works so you can feel confident tackling household fixes before they turn into full-blown disasters.

Maintenance and home repair are a never-ending reality—whether you own or rent. But staying ahead of household breakdowns doesn’t have to be painful or unnecessarily pricey. The secret? Tackle things as they happen. Not someday. Not “when you get around to it.” Now.

And here’s where it gets encouraging: you’re not alone. According to recent data, over 50% of homeowners handle repairs and home improvement projects on their own—and 73% say saving money is the main reason. Millennials and Gen Zers especially are driving this DIY surge, motivated by budget constraints, fixer-upper purchases, and a healthy dose of YouTube confidence.

Three in four homeowners are jumping into at least some repairs themselves. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of fixing something with your own two hands.

So let’s make sure you’re set up for success. The best way to guarantee you’ll actually get those repairs done? Have the right tools and products stocked and ready. I’ve rounded up my personal favorites—all affordable, effective, and easy to use. Some of them might already be in your drawer; others could be your new secret weapons.

And hey—if you’ve got a go-to repair product I didn’t mention? Leave a comment and let me know. I love hearing what works in real homes like yours.

1. A Quick Fix for Wood Scratches That Actually Works

Minwax Wood Finish Stain Marker

Minwax Wood Finish Stain Marker

Minwax Wood Finish Stain Markers are my go-to solution for making scratches and nicks disappear on furniture, floors, cabinets, doors—even antiques. These handy pens don’t just cover up the damage; they actually stain the wood, blending imperfections so well they practically vanish. Unlike markers that use ink, these contain real wood stain and dry in seconds, so you can layer coats easily if needed.

Available in a variety of wood tones, Minwax stain pens are ideal for keeping your home’s wood surfaces looking polished and well cared for. Whether it’s a mystery gouge in your dining table, a scratch from moving furniture, or everyday wear and tear on baseboards and trim—these pens are perfect to have on hand.

Pro tip: Follow the directions exactly for best results, and always test the color on an inconspicuous area first. I keep a set in my toolbox so I can tackle touch-ups quickly—before little blemishes turn into big eyesores.

2. A Clear, Strong Glue You Can Count On

Product Image - Weldbond Adhesive Glue

Weldbond Adhesive Glue

Weldbond Adhesive Glue is one of those versatile, do-it-all staples every household should have. It’s incredibly strong, yet cleans up with just water, is non-toxic, nearly odorless, and dries crystal clear—making it perfect for visible repairs that need to look clean and polished. Bonus: it stays flexible even after curing, which makes it ideal for materials that may shift or bend slightly over time.

This glue works on both porous and non-porous surfaces—think wood, metal, tile, porcelain, fabric, and even some plastics. For the best bond, lightly scuff the surfaces with a nail file or bit of sandpaper before applying. Full cure takes about 24 hours, but it sets up quickly enough that you won’t be babysitting the project all day.

Pro tip: If it’s your first time using Weldbond on a particular surface, test it on a hidden spot first. You’ll get a feel for how it dries and ensure the finished repair blends in just right.

3. Another Glue I Always Have on Hand

Product Image - Original Gorilla Glue

Original Gorilla Glue

Gorilla Glue comes in all sorts of formulas these days—but truthfully, most of them I can take or leave. It’s the Original Gorilla Glue that has saved my bacon more than once and earned a forever spot in my home repair kit. This stuff bonds just about anything to anything else—and once it sets, it’s stuck for good. I’m talking permanent, “might survive the apocalypse” levels of hold.

One of the reasons I rely on it is the generous working time. It doesn’t set instantly, so I can reposition and adjust things until they’re lined up just right. That flexibility is especially handy when you’re not dealing with a clean break or matching surfaces.

Here’s a great example: The wireframe on one of my lampshades snapped, leaving it looking completely lopsided. It wasn’t a clean fix—more of a “how is this ever going to hold?” situation. But Original Gorilla Glue came through. I used it to delicately reattach the wire to the inside of the fabric where it wouldn’t be seen. That spot? It’s now the strongest part of the entire lampshade.

One caveat: the repair will usually be visible, so it’s not ideal for every fix. But if you need a bond that lasts, this is the glue you want in your toolbox.

4. A Must-Have for Hard Water Woes

Product Image - CLR PRO Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover

CLR PRO Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover

CLR stands for Calcium, Lime, and Rust—the stubborn, unsightly buildup that loves to show up uninvited around sinks, tubs, toilets, and appliances. And this powerful cleaner lives up to its name.

Whether you’re battling rust stains in the tub or crusty calcium deposits on your humidifier coils, CLR PRO Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover is the reinforcement you’ll be glad to have. Just take a peek under the rim of your toilet bowl (go ahead, I’ll wait)—and you’ll know exactly why this belongs in your cleaning arsenal.

It quickly cuts through calcium and lime deposits, hard water stains, soap scum, and rust. Plus, it leaves surfaces shiny and refreshed. Use it on everything from stainless steel and tile to glass, fiberglass, and even toilet bowls. It’s tough on grime but surprisingly gentle where it matters: no phosphates, no bleach, no ammonia—and it’s recognized by the EPA’s Safer Choice Program for being a safer alternative to harsher chemical cleaners.

Keep a bottle of CLR PRO tucked away in your cleaning caddy. When mineral buildup rears its crusty head, you’ll be ready.

5. Why WD-40 Still Deserves a Spot in Your Toolbox

Product Image - WD-40 Original Formula

WD-40 Original Formula

Chances are, you grew up with that iconic blue-and-yellow can of WD-40 in your parents’ garage. And for good reason—it’s a household classic that’s stood the test of time. If you don’t have one tucked away already, it’s time to fix that.

Originally developed over 60 years ago as a Water Displacement formula (that’s what the “WD” stands for!), this multi-purpose spray is part lubricant, part rust-fighter, part grime-buster—and honestly, kind of a household wizard.

Here’s just a sampling of what it can do:

  • Silence squeaky door hinges and sticky drawers
  • Remove rust from garden tools and bike chains
  • Clean crayon and marker from walls (yes, really)
  • Shine and protect stainless steel
  • Unstick stubborn zippers or locks

WD-40 also repels dirt and moisture, making it a go-to for preventing corrosion on tools and hardware. It’s not just handy—it’s practically essential.

Pro tip: If you haven’t looked at WD-40 in a while, check out the Smart Straw version. No more losing the little red straw—it’s built right in.

6. The Fast Fix You’ll Reach For Again and Again

Product Image - 3M Bondo All-Purpose Putty

3M Bondo All-Purpose Putty

Bondo All-Purpose Putty is one of those unsung household heroes you’ll wonder how you ever lived without. Whether you’re dealing with dents in drywall, cracks in concrete, or knicks in exterior wood, this versatile 2-part putty is up for the challenge.

Mix the white putty with the included hardener, and it’ll turn light gray—your cue that it’s ready to work. Once applied, it sets quickly and can be sanded and painted in just 15 minutes. Yes, really. That makes it perfect for those “I want this fixed today” kinds of jobs.

Here’s just a sampling of where it shines:

  • Drywall dents and nail holes
  • Cracked concrete or masonry
  • Painted wood trim, window sills, or siding
  • Loose tile or shingles
  • Knotholes or damaged door frames
  • Metal gutters and more

It’s fully paintable, strong, and durable—and once it cures, your repair will blend right in like it was never there.

Now, a quick heads-up: Bondo All-Purpose Putty can be tricky to find in some areas, especially at smaller hardware stores. If it’s not on the shelf, don’t worry—Bondo makes a whole line of fillers tailored to different repair needs, from fast-drying options to wood-specific formulas and fiberglass-reinforced putties. Each one works a little differently depending on the surface and project, but they all follow a similar principle: mix, apply, sand, paint, admire.

So if your repair job doesn’t quite match the All-Purpose formula, you can probably still find a Bondo product that’s just right for the job. (Just be sure to follow the directions and curing times—some need longer to dry or have unique finish qualities.)

Pro tip: Keep a putty knife and sanding block close by. Once you start using this stuff, you’ll be amazed at how many little fixes you can finally cross off your list.

7. Repair Leather and Vinyl Like a Pro

Product Image - VLP Liquid Vinyl Repair, Clear

VLP Liquid Vinyl Repair, Clear

VLP Vinyl Repair is a clear, high-strength formula designed to fix small rips, tears, and holes in most types of vinyl and leather—without the hassle of color matching. What makes it really impressive? This repair actually dissolves the surface of the material, bonding so strongly that your fix becomes even tougher than the original vinyl or leather.

The air-dry formula dries completely clear, helping your repair blend seamlessly into the surrounding material. Plus, it stays flexible, resists weather and common chemicals, and won’t turn brittle over time. That means your sofa, car seat, or favorite chair might just have a new lease on life—saving you the cost and hassle of a full replacement.

Easy to use and surprisingly affordable, VLP Vinyl Repair is a smart little tool to keep handy for those unexpected tears. Who knew fixing leather and vinyl could be this straightforward?

8. The Heavy-Duty Fixer-Upper You Need

Product Image - Gorilla All Weather Duct Tape, Black

Gorilla All Weather Duct Tape, Black

Heavy-duty and double-thick, Black Gorilla Tape is basically duct tape on steroids. This is the tape you reach for when you need to hold together rough, uneven, and downright stubborn surfaces like wood, stone, stucco, plaster—even brick. Reinforced and weather-resistant, it stands up to extreme temperatures and tough conditions—no wonder it’s got “gorilla” in its name.

This tape is super strong and extra sticky, so a word of caution: don’t use it on painted surfaces or anywhere you plan to remove it later—unless you want to pull paint or finish right off the wall. Always follow the label instructions for best results.

I’ve lost count of all the creative ways Gorilla Tape has saved the day without causing damage. For example, a garage sale sign held up by Black Gorilla Tape will cling to just about anything—a tree trunk included—through wind, hail, and snow. And when it’s time to take the sign down? The tape can come off cleanly without harming the tree… as long as you’re careful. (If you leave it too long, well, it might become a permanent fixture!)

I’m careful with my Gorilla Tape because it’s just that powerful. But trust me—once you’ve tried it, you’ll love it too.

9. Small Tools, Big Uses

Product image - STANLEY Jewellers Precision Screwdriver Set, 6-Piece

STANLEY Jewelers Precision Screwdriver Set, 6-Piece

This Stanley Jewelers Precision Screwdriver Set isn’t your typical garage screwdriver collection—but then again, I’m not sure they’re quite tiny enough to handle fine jewelry repairs either.

What they are perfect for is tackling a surprising number of small jobs around the house. The set includes two sizes of Phillips head and four sizes of flathead screwdrivers, all neatly organized in a compact red plastic case.

The real standout? These screwdrivers have hardened blades, so they won’t bend or twist under pressure like so many cheap ones do. That means you get precision and durability in a handy little package.

You’ll be amazed at how often these become your go-to tools—whether you’re removing tiny screws to swap out a battery or tightening something delicate around the house. This is one of those must-have toolsets that quietly earns its keep in every home toolbox.

10. Clear Solution for Quartz & Stone Chips

Product Image - HIMG Quartz Countertop Repair Kit, Clear

HIMG Quartz Countertop Repair Kit, Clear

Let’s have a moment of silence for that pristine quartz countertop—now marked by a tiny chip that feels way bigger than it looks. I know the feeling. But before you start Googling “countertop replacement costs” and hyperventilating, take a breath. There’s a fix for this.

The HIMG Surface Repair Kit is a DIY lifesaver for quartz, granite, marble, Corian, porcelain, acrylic, and more. Whether it’s a chipped edge, a small gouge, or a mystery nick that appeared overnight (blame the pan, not yourself), this kit can handle it—no pro needed.

This upgraded version uses light-curing acrylic (LCA), not messy epoxy, so it dries clear, stays durable, and won’t yellow over time. Best part? It’s non-toxic, odorless, and food-safe, making it ideal for kitchen counters and surfaces that see daily action. Most repairs take 10 minutes or less—seriously.

Pro tip: Have some clear packing tape on hand to create a little “retaining wall” if you’re working near an edge. Once cured, you can sand and polish the repair to blend beautifully.

I won’t say it’s like the chip never happened—but I will say you’ll probably be the only one who ever notices it again. And that’s a big win.

11. Quick Fix for Nail Holes, Cracks, and Wall Oopsies

Product Image - Boncart Drywall Repair Kit with Scraper

Boncart Drywall Repair Kit with Scraper

We all love a well-decorated wall… until it’s time to take those frames down and you’re left with a constellation of nail holes. If your drywall looks more like a memory board than a clean canvas, this Drywall Repair Kit is your new best friend.

This two-pack kit includes everything you need to tackle small drywall repairs—perfect for nail holes, picture hanger damage, minor cracks, and light scuffs. The wall mending agent is smooth, streak-free, and dries fast. It’s made with safe, odorless ingredients—no formaldehyde or harsh fumes—which makes it friendly for homes with kids and pets. Just squeeze, scrape, sand, and you’re done. It dries to a finish that’s easy to paint over or even leave as-is if your walls are white.

Whether you’re prepping to repaint, moving out of a rental, or just finally getting around to your DIY wall touch-ups, this little kit is the easiest way to give your walls that “good as new” feeling—without calling in a pro or making a bigger mess.

12. Restore Broken Ceramics with Gold (and Heart)

Product Image - Kintsugi Repair Kit

Kintsugi Repair Kit

This may sound like an arts and crafts project, but stay with me—because if you’ve ever held a broken plate or vase and just couldn’t bear to toss it, this one’s for you. Think back to Grandma’s ceramic vase that took a tumble on Christmas Eve. It meant something. And thanks to this Kintsugi Repair Kit, you don’t have to part with it.

Kintsugi is the traditional Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold (or silver), turning cracks into beautiful veins of honor and history—not something to hide, but something to cherish. This kit gives you everything you need to try it yourself at home, whether you’re fixing a treasured heirloom or creating something new out of something old.

This kit is more than glue and glitter—it’s a quiet, powerful way to say, “This still matters.” It’s affordable, easy to use, and the end result is a one-of-a-kind piece with a story to tell. If you’ve got something broken but not forgotten, this is the loving nudge to make it whole again—cracks and all.

I am looking forward to trying some of these products. Let me tweak your recommendation on Gorilla Glue. It will dry out in the bottle pretty quickly. We buy the multi-tube package. It lasts much longer this way. Because it expands, it is great for repairing things where expansion is needed like wooden chair braces.

Gorilla tape is the ONLY tape I buy. I’ve tried so many brands that suck. I always went back to Gorilla tape. Now, I don’t buy anything but Gorilla tape and Gorilla glue. Yes. Gorilla tape is a bit pricey but you get your moneys worth by not having to reapply or use 10 feet of cheap tape to get the results of 2 ft of Gorilla tape. I’ve used it for strange purposes like securing a metal headboard to a metal bed frame that could not be attached with screws. I’ve used clear Gorilla tape to reapply broken bathroom tile until able to use caulk or grout to reapply the tile. Then I forgot to buy caulk. Two years later the clear tape is still in place with no yellowing or curling.
