Best Inexpensive Home Security System
Several months ago, we had a serious home security wake-up call with the news of a home invasion in our sleepy town, population fewer than 20,000.
In the middle of the night, two young, hoodied thugs went from house to house in a beautiful new development until they found an unlocked window. Once inside, they held the terrified homeowners at gunpoint. Eventually, the perpetrators were caught and charged with 7 counts including kidnapping, grand larceny, and attempted murder (what a story, trust me).
I cannot recall a time I was more grateful to have a robust home security system. Thankfully, our neighbors survived, but the trauma of the event together with the tremendous financial loss will be with them indefinitely.
According to crime statistics from the FBI, in 2017 a burglary happened once every 23 seconds in the U.S. When you add it up, that was 3,757 burglaries a day! Mind-boggling. And things have escalated in the years since. In 2021, the crime rate in the U.S. is about 47.70 per 100,000 people.
While itโs impossible to put a price on the value of protecting yourย home and family, there is an inexpensive yet highly effective way to create aย strong defense against intruders. That means a solid home security system.
Having considered, studied, and evaluated home security systems, I’m convinced that we can do this well using the latest technology available, but without spending a fortune.

Just purchased our system from Simplisafe…thanks to your recommendation!
I read many good reports online also.
We just had some vandalism near our home…hadnโt had anything like that for the 19 years we lived here, now this! So the timing was perfect!
Thank you Mary and team!
God bless!
Wireless service is iffy in our urban town. My ex had made threats on my life and police said we needed a security system. I bought a hard wired system, 4 cameras (capable of 8), DVR included at harbor freight for $99. We got a monitor for $75 @ Walmart. Picture quality is excellent day or night. Two years and still working perfect! Caught a neighbor on our property doing things last year when he thought I wasn’t home and showed him the video on my phone. He’s no longer a problem. Some type of security system is a must.
Hi Mary,
So sorry about the break-ins in your area–scary.
We had Simply Safe for awhile, but they kept sending false alarms to the police, so we cancelled
I wish you’d contacted the SimpliSafe people. The Customer Care is excellent. I can only imagine you had a faulty sensor or perhaps an inappropriate install. As for that break-in the perps were caught, charged and sentenced to a very long time in prison. We are grateful beyond measure for our local police and pray for their safety.
We gave this system to our daughter when she bought her house. It was quick and easy to install, which can’t be said for many security systems. It’s a good product.
