This recipe is not only easy on your wallet but also versatile and satisfying. Whether you’re feeding a family or just need a quick meal for yourself, these peanut sauce noodles are a winner every time.
Ingredients You’ll Need for 3 Ingredient Peanut Sauce
For this delicious and budget-friendly recipe, you’ll need just three simple ingredients to make the peanut sauce, plus your favorite pasta. Here’s what you need:
- Peanut butter: You can use either smooth or crunchy peanut butter, depending on your preference. Smooth peanut butter will give the sauce a creamier texture, while crunchy peanut butter will add a bit of extra texture and crunch.
- Soy sauce: Soy sauce provides the salty, umami flavor that complements the sweetness of the peanut butter. If you’re looking for a gluten-free alternative, Tamari works just as well and adds the same rich flavor.
- Water: This is reserved from the pasta water. The starchy pasta water helps to thin out the peanut butter and soy sauce mixture, making it easier to coat the noodles evenly.
- Pasta: You can use any type of pasta you have on hand. Angel hair, spaghetti, fettuccine, or linguini all work great in this recipe. The choice of pasta can change the dish’s texture and feel, so pick your favorite or whatever you have in your pantry.
This simple combination of ingredients creates a flavorful and satisfying dish that’s perfect for a quick meal any time of the day.
Step-by-Step Instructions for 3 Ingredient Peanut Sauce
Making this 3 ingredient peanut sauce for noodles is as easy, and it’s a real time-saver, especially on those busy weeknights.
Cooking the Pasta
Start by cooking your pasta until it’s al dente, following the package instructions. This usually takes around 8-10 minutes, but it can vary depending on the type of pasta you’re using. Once the pasta is cooked to perfection, drain it, but make sure to reserve 1/4 cup of the pasta water. This starchy water will be key in making our sauce nice and smooth.
Making the Sauce
In a saucepan, combine equal parts of peanut butter, soy sauce, and the reserved pasta water. Set the pan over medium heat and stir continuously until the ingredients are fully incorporated and the sauce is hot. The soy sauce adds a rich, savory depth to the creamy peanut butter, creating a sauce that’s both flavorful and easy to make.
Combining and Serving
Pour the hot peanut sauce over the cooked, drained pasta. Toss everything together until the noodles are well-coated with the sauce. For an added touch, garnish your dish with whatever you have on hand—peanuts, cilantro, or a squeeze of lime juice all make great additions. Serving this dish with some steamed frozen broccoli can turn it into a complete, nutritious meal. Enjoy your quick, easy, and delicious peanut sauce noodles!
Tips to Customize Your Peanut Sauce Noodles
- Scale the Recipe: This recipe multiplies well—use equal parts peanut butter, soy sauce, and water for the sauce and the amount of noodles desired.
- Pasta Variety: While spaghetti, fettuccine, or linguine are ideal, any pasta shape will do.
- Make Stir Fried Peanut Sauce Noodles: Cook the noodles and make the sauce (add red pepper flakes if you dare!) Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet or wok. Add garlic and onion, stir for 30 seconds. Add chicken, shrimp, or any protein you have on hand. Stir. Add carrot and/or cabbage and cook until it starts to wilt. Add cooked noodles, bean sprouts (if you have them), and the prepared sauce. Toss for a couple of minutes or until noodles are well coated. This is not exact science, but a way to upscale!
- Poor Man’s Pad Thai: Noodles + peanut butter + Sriracha basically feels like poor man’s Pad Thai. Even better if you have an egg to put in.

i thought this was quite weird. just for grins and giggles, i took about an eighth of a teaspoon of each and tasted it. i was surprised at how good it is. i made it for dinner. since i don’t like to cook and would just as soon have a buttered roll for dinner, this looked easy to make. i was surprised at how easy. i made it for dinner and i am enjoying it very much.
thanks, mary!

What are the quantities for the PB & Sriracha?
To taste! One option is to replace the PB with Sriracha. But that eliminates the peanut flavor. It’s totally up to you! Making the sauce then adding a squirt or two of Srirach seems like a fine option. Again, if you like Sriracha, add according to your preferred amount of heat.
Yum. We like this with a squirt or two of Sriracha or other hot chili sauce. Throw in some greens – like kale ribbons or spinach leaves – if possible.

Can this recipe be used as a refrigerated pasta salad?
Sounds good to me!
