If you will be hosting overnight guests during the holidays, make sure you’ve planned for extra expenses like transportation and food. If your guests are not staying overnight with you, offer them hotel recommendations and assistance with making reservations. They need to do this well in advance. Like today!

Inviting friends and family to your home during the holidays doesn’t have to cost a fortune. The key to effective entertaining is to remember that your guests are far more interested in spending time with you than seeing you fret and fume as you attempt to pull off the event of the century. 

Over the years, I have collected many tips and tricks for how to do things better and cheaper when it comes to holiday entertaining. And my best lessons came as a result of discovering what doesn’t work.
