July is Best Time for Shopping Bargains on These 9 Items

Finding authentic hot bargains and deep discounts on the things you need often has more to do with when you shop than where. It’s all about knowing the best time to buy.

In the same way that cars are often discounted late in the season and just before new models are introduced, appliances, clothes, sporting goods, linens, home decor, and even travel deals are predictably discounted for a variety of different reasons. In fact, 4th of July sales is becoming known as Black Friday in July—a chance to get a deal at Black Friday-like prices …

As July temperatures soar, keep an eye out for these hot bargains.

17 Things You’d Be Smart to Buy at a Dollar Store

At least a couple of times a week, someone will ask me what I miss most about living in California. That’s certainly understandable. After all, we lived there for 47 years before pulling up roots and relocating to Colorado.

My usual response is “Not much!” But, truth be told there are two things: Good pizza and 99 Cents Only Stores. While I’m still searching for a decent pizza, I’ve discovered other dollar stores near me to tide me over until 99 Cents gets smart and opens a store in my neighborhood!

A dollar store is the place I go when I need something to last just until the end of the party—or through the next holiday. Dollar stores are where I match quality with need. If I don’t need it for long (think: disposable), I sure don’t want to pay a lot for it.

Today I have 17 things you’d be smart to buy at a dollar store. Do you shop at dollar-type stores? Tell us in the comments!

Enjoy this beautiful day …

11 Money Savers That Will Pay for Themselves Over and Again

It’s difficult to ignore what’s going on in the world, but even more severe, the economic downturn here in the U.S. I want to send a message directly to my Dear Readers who’ve been recently laid off or who are feeling insecure about their employment situation: I see you, I’m thinking of you, and I will be your companion every single morning until you’re back on your feet. And after that, too! We’re in this together … and together we are going to come through this and hopefully better for having done it!

I can’t be the only one recalling my grandparents’ seemingly endless references and stories about living through the Great Depression. That’s going to be us and or our kids in the future talking about the Great Virus! Ha.

I have to admit to being a bit of a gadget freak. I’m drawn to tools and devices that do cool things. And when I discover “cool” includes being a money saver, for me that turns a purchase into an investment with a guaranteed rate of return.

Today, a list of 11 gadgets, tools, and items I’ve found that can save a lot of money and generally recoup the cost in less than a year. Your mileage may vary.

You can count on this: Once you’ve recouped the purchase price, these items will continue to save you money—for free! See you there… Love, xo m

P.S. My Dear Readers of faith who responded to a previous message. Wow! There are lots of us. I’m busy figuring out the best way to proceed. I’m so excited—thrilled, and filled with anticipation. Sit tight, or stand by. You’ll hear from me very soon. For anyone who didn’t get in on that, send an email message to [email protected] with “Faith” in the subject line. More soon,

Remember Mr. Diderot and His Red Robe Before You Head out Shopping

We’ve entered the critical period … this last week before Christmas! If you’re anything like me, thoughts of inadequacy are turning into some level of panic.

Saturday sales? Yes, yes, I must be there! (Yikes!)

Overnight shipping still available? Whew! How fast can I get in on that?! (More yikes!!)

Trust me, I am experiencing it, too … and destroying those feelings. How? Three steps—easy! Can’t wait to tell you …

See you there! Love, xo m

My Shopping Addiction Rehab Program

Shopping is my thing. I love the thrill of the hunt, that feeling of discovery and the joy of a bargain. I find it satisfying in ways I can’t fully describe. I want to experience the feeling as often as possible. Shopper’s high is no joke. It’s real, it’s palpable, and it’s addictive.

Shopping got me into a lot of trouble. In just 12 years I ran up more than $100,000 in consumer debt—most of it on credit cards. Eventually, all of it came crashing down and nearly took me with it. Thankfully, that crisis became the catalyst to turn my life around.

It took 13 years to repay all of the debt. I learned a lot about myself in the process but mostly that the satisfaction I got from shopping was short-lived. It was fake because it vanished in less time than it took me to get the stuff to the car. But that just set me up to do it again and again because the small bursts of joy I got from shopping were worth the pain that always followed.

Crazy I know, but absolutely true. I could so easily go back to my old ways, and that’s scary …

Extreme Bargain Hunting: The Best Time to Save on Everything

Over the years, I have learned an important lesson about getting the best deals on just about everything. Extreme bargain hunters have something in common: timing. They’ve got it down to a science, knowing specific days— even the time of day—when a bargain is at its best.

I’ve had the privilege of interviewing some of the tops experts in their fields (love my job), and oh, what I learned. Want to save like an expert? Today learn these deal-hunting secrets.

See you there … Love, xo m

Two new Episodes of my NEW! Podcast were just released today! Find them HERE.

An Awesome Way to Get Cash Back When Shopping Online

I could teach you how to be an extreme couponer. I’ve had a lot of experience including the time I demonstrated how to do it, on location, live on TV from a large supermarket. It’s a great way to save money but it’s a lot of work and limited mostly to grocery and drug stores.

Imagine a world where you had the equivalent of a big stack of coupons for all the other places you spend money—like Target, Amazon and Kohl’s, Groupon, Old Navy, even LifeLock! You do and it’s called Rakuten.

Black Friday is just around the corner. Got any plans? I have one: I am not leaving my house on Black Friday! I’m just not fond of crowds and chaos. I’d rather hunker down on my sofa in front of the cozy fire and look for deeply discounted bargains online. And get cash back in the process.

Everything you need to know about Rakuten in today’s post! See you there … Love, m xo.

P.S. Don’t miss today’s Podcast episode … it’s short but sweet ❣️

September 2019 is the Perfect Time to Buy These Things

Smart savers don’t buy things on a whim whenever a passing desire hits them from out of left field. Smart savers know what to buy and when. When they find bargains on items they use up, they stock up with enough to last until the next time that item goes on sale. And for certain, they […]

Your Consumer Behavior is Keeping You Broke

Do you know what I love? Walking into my supermarket the day after Thanksgiving and hearing the best Christmas music ever. Yeah! And if I wasn’t in the mood to bake Christmas cookies before I got there, just hearing that lovely music changes everything. Right there, that proves I am a quintessential, typical, impulsive consumer. […]

Shopping With Cash is Still the Best Way to Save Money

It used to be so easy to shop with cash. Get cash. Shop. But things have changed, perhaps you’ve noticed. More and more stores, shops, restaurants don’t even accept cash any more. Even my beloved Costco gasoline filling station! Ack! The only option for payment is … plastic.

But there is a sneaky way to get around that and beat Costco Gas, Amazon, and others at their own game. I’ll tell all in today’s post.

See you there! Love m xo 💰❣️😂

With My Sincere Apologies to Pawn Shops Everywhere

In the wake of America’s big economic wake-up call back in 2008, dollar stores and thrift stores saw, and continue to see, a big resurgence. And now another kind of retail quasi-lender is commanding all kinds of attention from sellers and buyers, too—pawn shops. I admit to having grown up with a weird bias against pawn […]

Even Small Households Can Save Big at Warehouse Clubs

It’s been a few years now since my husband and I began talking about relocating to another state. At first, it was only a dream but soon idle chatter turned to serious talk. That developed into a list of “must-haves”—things a new location would have to offer for us to even consider making the leap. […]

19 Hobby Lobby Money-Saving Hacks, Tips, and Tricks

I was late to the party but somehow managed catch up quickly. While Hobby Lobby has now expanded to California, I’d never stepped foot into one of the more than 800 stores until moving to Colorado.

How to Shop with CASH at Amazon

I can’t think of many things worse than waking up on Dec. 26 with a raging debt hangover—an all-too-common after-Christmas condition. The only reason you paid for everything with a credit card is that it was convenient. Besides, it’s not safe to shop online with a debit card, so what were your options? Of course, […]

Back-to-School Clothes Shopping

Your money is limited and time is short. Here is my best advice to make sure back-to-school clothes shopping doesn’t send you to the poorhouse. Set spending limits. Time to get real. How much money (not credit) do you have available for school clothes? Write it down. Take an inventory. Sort through your kids’ clothes […]
