Servings: 1.5 cups (fills 3–4 small jars, depending on size)
Cost: $3–$5
Small saucepan
medium mixing bowl
Electric mixer (hand or stand)
rubber spatula
Zip-top plastic bag (optional, for easy jar filling)
Small jars or containers with lids
- ⅓ cup quality coconut oil
- ⅓ cup shea butter
- ¼ cup olive oil or swap with sweet almond, jojoba, or grapeseed oil
- A few drops essential oil optional, for scent
In a small saucepan, melt the coconut oil and shea butter over low heat, stirring occasionally. Keep a close eye. It melts quickly.
Pour the melted mixture into a 2-cup (or larger) container. Stir in the olive oil. Place in the refrigerator until fully hardened, about 30 minutes.
Transfer the mixture to a medium mixing bowl. With an electric mixer, beat for 3–5 minutes, until light, fluffy, and creamy, like whipped butter.
If using essential oils, add them now. Mix again on low until fully incorporated.
To portion, scoop the shaving cream into a zip-top plastic bag. Snip one bottom corner to make a quick piping bag, then squeeze into your jars or containers.
Seal, label, and store until ready to use.
Use just like store-bought shaving cream. Apply a thin layer, shave, and rinse.
If the cream starts to separate over time, simply stir it vigorously with a spoon and it’ll come right back together.
For gifting, dress up your jars with a ribbon or handwritten label. It makes a thoughtful, affordable, and useful gift.
Storage tip: Keep in a cool, dry place. If your home is very warm, the cream may soften; refrigeration will firm it up again.
