Course: DIY Household Cleaners
Cuisine: Cleaning, Housekeeping
Cost: $0.50
- 4 cups hot water
- 3 tbsp citric acid or 1 cup lemon juice
- 3 cups white vinegar
- 1 tsp Blue Dawn dishwashing liquid
Combine all ingredients in a bucket or large container and stir well.
Using a funnel, pour the mixture into your empty Swiffer WetJet bottle or preferred spray bottle.
Important Notes
- Not for Wood or Laminate: Avoid using this formula on wood or laminate floors. Vinegar and citric acid can dull and soften these surfaces over time, so stick to tile and vinyl for this recipe.
- For Citrus Lovers: If using lemon juice, avoid varieties with high sugar content (like Meyer lemons), as they can leave a sticky residue. Citric acid powder is a great alternative if you want to skip the juice.
How to Open the Swiffer WetJet Bottle
- Heat a pot of water on the stove until boiling, then turn off the burner.
- Hold the Swiffer WetJet bottle upside down, submerging the cap and a bit of the bottle in the hot water for up to 90 seconds.
- With a hot pad or cloth, twist the cap, which should release easily.
CAUTION: Avoid cutting the cap’s locking nubs, as this can cause leaking in the future.
