Equipment

  • Medium nonstick saucepan
  • Whisk for smooth blending
  • cheese grater (if using fresh Parmesan)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tsp garlic powder or 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 cups milk whole milk or half & half for extra richness
  • 6 oz grated Parmesan cheese preferably fresh
  • tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a medium nonstick saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add cream cheese and garlic powder, whisking continuously until smooth.
  • Slowly pour in milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  • Stir in Parmesan cheese and black pepper until fully incorporated.
  • Simmer for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat. If sauce is too thick, thin it with a bit more milk.
  • Serve immediately over hot pasta, chicken, or vegetables.

Notes

  • Substitutions:
    • Swap half & half for the milk for an extra creamy texture.
    • Use gruyère or pecorino Romano in place of Parmesan for a different twist.
    • Add a pinch of nutmeg for authentic Italian flavor.
  • Storage:
    • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
    • Reheat gently over low heat, adding a splash of milk to loosen.
    • Not freezer-friendly—dairy-based sauces tend to separate when thawed.
  • Serving Ideas:
    • Toss with fettuccine for a classic Alfredo dish.
    • Drizzle over grilled chicken or shrimp.
    • Use as a pizza sauce for a white pizza base.
    • Serve as a dip for breadsticks or roasted veggies.
