Course: How to, Potpourri
Cuisine: How-To
Servings: 1 slow cooker full of potpourri (fills the air of a large room)
Cost: $5
- 1 orange sliced
- 1 apple sliced
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 tablespoon whole allspice
- 1-2 sprigs fresh rosemary optional
- 2-3 cups water
Slice the orange and apple into rounds.
Place the orange, apple, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, and rosemary (if using) into the slow cooker.
Pour enough water into the slow cooker to cover the ingredients by 2-3 inches.
Turn the slow cooker on "Low" and leave the lid off.
Let the mixture simmer throughout the day, keeping an eye on the water level. Add more water as needed to maintain the fragrance.
After use, store the mixture in the refrigerator overnight and reuse the next day by adding fresh water and turning the slow cooker back on.
Reuse Tip: The potpourri can be reused for up to 2-3 days if stored in the fridge and replenished with fresh water.
Ingredient Swaps: Feel free to mix and match ingredients. You can add cranberries for color, star anise for a licorice scent, or even vanilla extract for a sweeter fragrance.
Safety Tip: Keep the potpourri simmering at a safe distance from small children and pets. Never leave it unattended for long periods without monitoring the water level.
