Ingredients

  • 2 cans whole berry cranberry sauce (14 oz)
  • 1 can apple pie filling (about 21-ounce)
  • 1 box yellow or white cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 12 tbsp cold butter (1 ½) sticks (plus more for baking dish)
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional!)
Makes: 9 x 13inch rectangle

Instructions

  • Place the oven rack in the middle and preheat to 350°F. Lightly butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Pour in 2 cans (14 ounces each) of whole berry cranberry sauce and 1 can (about 21 ounces) of apple pie filling into the baking dish, then mix. Layer in the following order without stirring: Sprinkle an even layer of 1 box (15.25 ounces) of cake mix. Cut 1 1/2 sticks of cold unsalted butter into thin slices and evenly arrange them over the cake mix, covering the entire surface.
  • Bake for 50 to 55 minutes until it's golden brown, bubbling, and a crispy crust starts to form. Let it cool for 10 minutes, then serve with vanilla ice cream if you like.

Notes

One serving = approx 4" x 3" piece.
