Eggnog Wassail for Big Batches

This Eggnog Wassail is the kind of big-batch drink that makes hosting feel effortless. Creamy eggnog meets spiced cider for a cozy, gently sweet holiday sipper that works just as well warm on the stovetop as it does chilled in a punch bowl.

Equipment

  • large cooking pot
  • Long-handled spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Ladle
  • Slow cooker (optional for serving)

Ingredients

  • 3 quarts eggnog
  • 1 ½ quarts apple cider
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel

Instructions

  • In a large pot, combine the eggnog, apple cider, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and lemon peel.
  • Warm over low heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Avoid boiling. Slow and gentle is key here.
  • Ladle into mugs and serve warm, or chill and serve cold if you prefer a punch-style version.

Notes

Keep it warm for parties by transferring to a slow cooker set to WARM.
For stronger spice, let the cloves steep a little longer before serving. Just remember to remove them before pouring.
This recipe scales beautifully if you’re serving an extra-large group.
Add cinnamon sticks or thin orange slices to the pot for a festive look without extra effort.
