- 6 cups freshly brewed coffee
- 4 1-ounce squares semi-sweet baking chocolate, chopped
- 1 1/2 cups hot milk
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 8 peppermint sticks or candy canes for garnish
Pour the hot coffee into a large saucepan and stir in the chopped chocolate. Heat over low for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
Heat the milk in a microwave-safe container for 1–2 minutes, or warm it gently in another small saucepan over medium-high heat (do not boil).
Stir the hot milk and peppermint extract into the coffee-chocolate mixture until fully combined.
Carefully ladle into 8 mugs and garnish each with a peppermint stick or candy cane. Serve immediately.
For a stronger chocolate flavor, add an extra square of baking chocolate per 6 cups of coffee.
Swap milk for almond, oat, or soy milk for a dairy-free twist.
Want it extra indulgent? Top each mug with whipped cream and a light drizzle of chocolate syrup.
Make it a party drink: double the recipe and keep it warm in a slow cooker for easy self-serve enjoyment.
