Yummy Sweets to Make for Valentine’s Day
Friends. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Thankfully, we have several days and one big, beautiful weekend between now and then—plenty of time to make fabulous homemade treats and sweets!
Pie in a Jar
A single serving of pie—made in, baked in, and eaten from any small Mason-type canning jar—was surely invented just for Valentine’s Day, especially if that’s cherry pie! Don’t worry, though.
You can adapt this idea to any kind of pie, even cream pie, lemon meringue, pumpkin. You name it! And it doesn’t have to be a canning jar. You can do this in a small ramekin or any small vessel that can take oven heat.
A tiny pie in a jar is easy and fun to make. All you need is a pie crust and a filling. Use your favorite pastry and pie recipes, then scale them down. Make the bottom crust in the jar just as you would a regular-sized pie.
Top with a filling, and add a top crust if desired. Adjust bake time, and you’re good to go! You can find a complete photo tutorial for how to make Pie in a Jar HERE.
Mini Pies in a Jar Lid
Yes, a jar lid! While mini pies in a jar are single-serving size, these little pies made in a wide-mouth jar lid are even smaller—more like one amazing, decadent bite! Just perfect.
Go to MennoniteGirlsCanCook.ca for recipes and a complete tutorial. You’ll be turning out dozens of these small pies in no time at all.
Mini Lava Cakes
This is amazing—now you can make individual, succulent not molten lava cakes in your Instant Pot electric pressure cooker. I know. Sounds ridiculous, but you have to trust me on this. HERE is the recipe and full instructions.
Or for or a more traditional non-pressure cooker method, check out Lee Drummond’s Chocolate Lava Cakes recipe and instructions.
Candied Lemon Peel
Oh my. I just returned from California with a load of organic Meyer lemons and I’ve got candied lemon peel on my mind—fresh and brightly aromatic DIY candy.
Rather than this being a tedious process that takes hours and hours—I’m making candied lemon peel in my Instant Pot.
Fast, easy, and the result? Fantastic! And what an elegant, lovely gift this decadent candy makes. Perfect for Valentines Day! Here is the recipe and complete instructions.
Red Velvet Mini Cupcakes
I’d say that anything with “red velvet” in its name is perfect for Valentine’s Day.
