July is Best Time for Shopping Bargains on These 9 Items

Finding authentic hot bargains and deep discounts on the things you need often has more to do with when you shop than where. It’s all about knowing the best time to buy. And the time is now for great July shopping bargains.

In the same way that cars are often discounted late in the season and just before new models are introduced, appliances, clothes, sporting goods, linens, home decor, and even travel deals are predictably discounted for a variety of different reasons. In fact, 4th of July sales are known as Black Friday in July—a chance to get a deal iPads, 4K TVs, outdoor grills, appliances, and sporting goods, too— at Black Friday-like prices.

As July temperatures soar, keep an eye out for these hot bargains.

Outdoor grills

July is smack dab in the middle of summer, and grill retailers are starting to sweat. They’re checking inventory. Most people purchase grills at the beginning of the season and traffic is starting to slow. What to do with all the inventory? Sell it, baby! As soon as the last fireworks display is packed up for another year, expect every kind of outdoor grill imaginable to go on sale.

Whether on Amazon or elsewhere, gas grills are a super smart buy in July because you still have plenty of choices, nearly everything available is on sale and lots of great grilling days still ahead.

Kayaks

Right about now sporting goods stores are beginning to get a little worried about their outstanding inventory of kayaks—not because there’s anything wrong with them but because they’re so big! Storage is costly. What’s the solution? Put them on sale to clear them out and make room for snowboards and skis. Check local sporting and outdoors store like Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops for their July shopping bargains.

Furniture

Want a great deal on last year’s models? July is the month to buy. How so? August is when stores get their new models so they need to clear out their showrooms and warehouses like right now! Expect to see clearance prices on furniture this month that will knock your socks off!

Kitchen appliances

There is a long-standing tradition that retailers deeply discount kitchen appliances—particularly ranges and stoves, over-the-range microwaves, dishwashers, and freezers—during the July 4th Sales Events that typically run to the end of the month. If you’ve been waiting patiently to replace your stove or range, get ready for a really nice reward for patience. While we continue to be living through all of the fallout of a global pandemic, typically, we can expect discounts of 30% to 40%.

Washers, dryers

If you’re looking to replace or upgrade laundry appliances, this may be a very good time to do that. Expect to find discounts of 40% and more on washers and dryers during the 4th of July sales, which are expected to be going on all month.

Fresh fruit

I just couldn’t enumerate July bargains without visiting the produce department. Summer fruits like peaches, pears, plums, melons, and grapes are so plentiful this month, down go those prices. That means it’s time to load up. What you cannot consume fresh can be canned and frozen for the fall and winter months ahead.

Personal electronics

Electronics like Fire devices and Kindle e-readers are going to be really cheap this month, but perhaps not until July 15.

If you’re not an Amazon Prime Member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial now, use it freely, then cancel before the end of your trial 29 days from now. Perfectly legit and ethical, too. Really.

Online retailers like Target and Walmart will be competing for sales on personal devices with hot bargain prices, too.

Frozen treats

Thanks to President Reagan, we celebrate National Ice Cream Day every third Sunday in July, meaning July 19 this year. You can be sure your local supermarkets will be celebrating with sales and BOGO (buy one get one free) events all through the month.

Sadly, for the first time in its history, 7-Eleven has canceled Free Slurpee Day, July 11, due to the virus. Let’s hope this is a one-time occurrence and that it will be re-instated next year.

Home decor

In recognition of the wedding season, many retailers are offering some great deals on all things for the home. Look for hot bargains on dishes, linens, lamps, and myriad decorator items you’ve had your eye on. And for all my forward-thinking readers, July is a great time to start Christmas shopping. Just keep a list of what you bought, for whom you bought it—and where you put it. You’ll thank me come December.

i was raised by depression survivors. while i do not wait until things die, i replace them when they r just holding on. i am of the age where i do not care about trends, colors, etc. lucky me. i spend money frivolously only on ME!
