11 Everyday Uses for Nok-Out—the World’s Best Odor Eliminator

Nok-Out and I met quite by accident. While searching for ways to deal with offensive odors—that musty smell of an old book or the stench of pet urine—we found each other online. Twenty years later I’m still convinced that there’s just nothing else like the amazing product called Nok-Out.

Nok-Out eliminates odors scientifically through a process known as oxidation. Nok-Out is completely non-toxic, contains no chemicals or fragrance and no odor of its own. It is safe to use in the kitchen and around children because it is harmless to humans and animals.

In the beginning, I hoarded my precious gallon of Nok-Out, somehow assuming that I must save it for serious, super smelly situations. After all, one just never knows when oh, let’s say a skunk might wander into the house, become startled, and then do what skunks are known to do. I keep a spray bottle handy filled with a 50/50 dilution* of Nok-Out and water under the kitchen sink. And I reach for it often, keeping in mind that for Nok-Out to work, it must reach the source of the odor or contamination and then sit undisturbed for 5 to 15 minutes or until dry. It is during that time that the odor becomes oxidized and then vanishes.

1. Mattresses and pillows

Every week when I change our bed linens, I spray the mattress and pillows with Nok-Out (my trusty 50/50 dilution in a spray bottle). It’s a routine that has kept our mattresses and pillows fresh and clean smelling without any tell-tale fragrance.

 

2. Refrigerator

I don’t know what it is about refrigerators (maybe the food?!), but no matter its age, a refrigerator can quickly turn into a stinky place. An unnoticed milk spill, a tiny leak from meat, poultry, and fish, and in no time at all the thing gets smelly.

Cleaning those spills with baking soda or dishwashing detergent is a good idea, but doesn’t always take care of the problem. But doing that with Nok-Out is a surefire way to eliminate every hint of odor. I spray every square inch of every surface, even into the vents. And I use Nok-Out to clean the outside water and ice dispensers, too.

3. Shoes

Oh my, yes. Shoes! I routinely mist the inside of our shoes and boots with Nok-Out. No more stinky shoes. And I like knowing that I’m not burying odors—I’m forcing odors to first neutralize then vanish in the simplest but most effective way.

4. Trash cans

I keep my Nok-Out spray bottle with me when I empty trash cans and wastebaskets, giving each one a misting before replacing the plastic liner. I do the same for the inside of the trash container cabinet in the kitchen and the big cans in the garage.

5. Sink overflow and drains

You know that little overflow hole in most bathroom sinks? I spray Nok-Out into it because I’ve discovered that over time, it can get smelly in there. Check yours to see if I’m not right about that. I spray into the drains, too.

6. Storage

I figure that anything that is packed away in storage—seasonal decorations, books, toys, bedding, clothes, etc.—is prone to developing a funky smell, especially if you live in an area prone to high humidity. A fine mist of Nok-Out when bringing things out of storage takes care of that in short order.

7. Cutting boards

A wooden cutting board is the most beloved but also the most polluted thing you use daily. After cutting up vegetables, fruits, meats, or seafood, wash with soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly then spray with Nok-Out. Do not disturb for 5-15 minutes. Now it’s good to go until you chop meat again.

8. Car interior

Want to get rid of that funky odor in the car? Nok-Out! Lightly mist every surface—leather and cloth upholstery, the headliner, doors, carpet, floor mats, console, dashboard, all of it—even into the ventilation system.

9. Litter boxes

If you have cats you need Nok-Out to clean those boxes and then remove odors in the areas around them. If there’s an odor, you’ve got more than a bad smell—we’re talking bacteria and nasty germs, too. Empty the litter, wash the box with soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly then spray with Nok-Out. Do not disturb for 5-15 minutes. Now that box is fresh and clean, ready to be refilled with fresh litter.

10. Washer gasket

When I’m done with the laundry for the week, I open that big rubber gasket on my front loading machine and use a microfiber cloth to soak up all of the water that remains in there. Then I hold it open and spray it well with Nok-Out, leaving the door open for a few hours to allow it to dry. No more odors.

11. Sofa and chair cushions

Yep, I mist all the upholstered furniture in our house with Nok-Out—not every week, but every time that I vacuum the upholstery.
